"Bill" is leaving his winter digs for a balmier date in the spring.
Quentin Tarantino's action sequel "Kill Bill, Volume 2" has bolted its Feb. 20 release slot and is expected to land on April 16. A Miramax spokesman declined comment, but news of the re-skedding circulated among distribs Thursday.
In fact, one distrib has already moved to make good use of the release-calendar real estate "Bill" has vacated. Disney has skedded its previously unslotted "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" for wide release on Feb. 20.
Meanwhile, it's also still undecided whether "Bill 2" will travel to Cannes. Fest is believed highly interested in getting the pic (Daily Variety, Dec. 18).
No clear reason has surfaced for moving the "Bill" sequel, but a later slotting will allow time to circulate "Kill Bill, Vol. 1" in homevid. "Bill 1" is expected to hit homevid shelves April 13.
Other theatrical releases set for April 16 include Universal's Nia Vardalos-Toni Collette starrer "Connie and Carla" and Lions Gate/Artisan actioner "The Punisher." Miramax had also tentatively skedded Jet Li actioner "Hero" for the date, but it's likely that will have to make room for "Bill 2."
"Bill" started out as one long pic until Miramax decided to whack it in half and release the ultra-violent chopsocky yarn as a two-part franchise. Post-production on the second part is believed still under way. (As reported by VARIETY)
