Screenwriter Billy Ray will make his directorial debut on the film SHATTERED GLASS, and he's lining up some big-name talent to help him make a good first impression.
Greg Kinnear is in negotiations to star opposite Hayden Christensen in Lions Gate Films' SHATTERED GLASS, Variety reports. GLASS tells the true story of Stephen Glass (Christensen), who, from 1995 to 1998, was a twenty-something whiz-kid journalist in Washington writing for publications ranging from the NEW REPUBLIC to ROLLING STONE. Considered a rising star, it was later revealed that he made up sources and quotes, fabricating most of his articles. Kinnear will play Chuck Lane, editor of NEW REPUBLIC.
Glass' story was told in Buzz Bissinger's article "Shattered Glass" from the September 1998 issue of Vanity Fair. Lions Gate optioned the article and is securing life rights to the various people who were involved in Glass' life at the time.
Craig Baumgarten, Gay Hirsch and Tove Christensen are producing the project. Paula Wagner and Adam Merims are executive producing.
